It was a night to remember for Adrien Brody—not just for winning his second Oscar, but also for sharing another unforgettable moment with Halle Berry.
At the 97th Academy Awards, the 51-year-old actor joined an exclusive club of performers who have won every Oscar they’ve been nominated for. Brody took home the Best Actor award for his role in Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, making history as the first male actor to win two Oscars in his first two nominations.
But that wasn’t the only buzzworthy moment of the night. On the red carpet, 58-year-old Halle Berry walked up to Brody and kissed him, recreating their infamous Oscars moment from 22 years ago.

Social media quickly erupted with reactions.
“I wonder how their partners feel about this. It’s giving cringe,” one person tweeted.
Another commented, “She did it right in front of his girlfriend and then said, ‘Sorry, I had to.’”
A third user added, “Doing this in front of your wife is insane.”
Others called the moment inappropriate, pointing out how different the reaction might have been if the roles were reversed.
“That’s just weird. It’s not even about professionalism. This is just disrespectful,” one comment read.
Another questioned, “Could you imagine if he walked up to Halle and did this without consent… in front of her spouse? LOL.”
However, not everyone saw an issue. Some fans defended the moment, noting that Chapman was seen clapping.
“She applauded the kiss. Do you not see her in the video?” one person wrote.
“They’re actors. Kissing is one of those things that’s allowed in a relationship,” another added.
As for their relationship statuses—neither Brody nor Berry are married, though both are in relationships. Berry recently shared that she “manifested” her boyfriend of four years, musician Van Hunt.
Speaking about the moment with Variety, Berry reflected on the night:
“That was one hell of a night for him—and for me as well. To be a part of his moment… tonight, I had to pay him back.
“I’ve seen him at parties, but this is the first time since that night that I’ve seen him on the red carpet. He’s nominated this year. He deserved that.”
