Another day, another bizarre Elon Musk moment—this time, the tech mogul has the internet in a frenzy over an AI-generated image of him kissing a female robot.
Just when you thought the world’s richest man might take a break from headlines—after becoming a father for the 13th time, expressing his support for Donald Trump, and reaffirming his wish to “die on Mars”—Musk is back in the spotlight.
Social media was sent into overdrive as images surfaced of the 53-year-old billionaire appearing to get intimately close with a humanoid female robot. The viral images, showing Musk kissing four different robotic women, quickly sparked confusion and debate online.
Twitter user Daniel Marven fueled the speculation with a post suggesting that Musk had found his “future wife” in the form of an AI-powered humanoid designed to match his ideal partner—one that “no normal person” could fulfill.
However, reality soon caught up with the internet’s imagination. The images were revealed to be AI-generated, serving as a warning about the potential dangers of artificial intelligence.
“The post is to clarify the dangers of AI in the coming period, especially after Tesla released its first integrated robot, ‘Optimus,’” Marven later explained in the same thread.
Despite the clarification, many Twitter users had a field day reacting to the uncanny AI-generated images.
“Well well well… what have we here?” one person quipped.
Another referenced the 2004 Will Smith sci-fi film, writing: “I, Robot is about to be reality.”
One Twitter user joked, “@elonmusk is taking it too far now… Where’s the robot husband?” while another compared it to The Matrix: “This just reminds me of the movie #MATRIX.”
The viral moment comes as Tesla continues to refine its Optimus humanoid robots, which have made significant progress since their prototype unveiling in 2022. Given Musk’s well-documented love of technology, it’s no surprise that some believed he might take his fascination with AI a step further.
The Musk deepfake images also arrive amid growing concerns over AI misuse in entertainment and media.
Just this week, another AI-generated video went viral, depicting Hollywood stars—including Adam Sandler, Sacha Baron Cohen, Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Black, Lisa Kudrow, and Scarlett Johansson—flipping off Kanye West following his controversial antisemitic remarks.
Johansson has been particularly vocal about the ethical concerns surrounding deepfake technology, warning of its potential to blur the lines between reality and fiction.
“We must call out the misuse of AI, no matter its messaging, or we risk losing a hold on reality,” Johansson told PEOPLE.
She also criticized the U.S. government’s slow response to AI regulation, adding:
“There is a 1,000-foot wave coming regarding AI that several progressive countries—unlike the United States—have responded to responsibly. It is terrifying that the U.S. government is paralyzed when it comes to passing legislation that protects its citizens against the imminent dangers of AI.”
With artificial intelligence advancing at an unprecedented rate, these incidents serve as a stark reminder of both the technology’s potential and its risks.
